Volunteer with us as an Emergency Medical Technician

Newtown Ambulance is recruiting members who are certified or willing to become certified as Emergency Medical Technicians.  We offer EMT certification classes to the public on an annual basis. In addition applicants must have a clean driving record, a drivers license, and no criminal history.

Members must be able to attend monthly mandatory training meetings on the second Wednesday of every month and maintain a minimum number of sixteen (16) staffing hours to remain an active member.

Newtown Ambulance is recruiting members who are certified Emergency Medical Technicians.  We offer EMT certification classes to the public each winter and fall. Applicants must have a clean driving record, a drivers license, and no criminal history.  Because of the commitment we have to the Town of Newtown, we are seeking volunteers who can give a long term commitment. 

We are proud to offer comprehensive training which consists of between 3 to 6 months of training with an experienced Field Training Officer.  Because of this intensive training, we are asking applicants to commit to a minimum twenty four (24) staffing hours each month and a minimum of a 2 year obligation to NVAC.  NVAC is a very busy volunteer service with approx. 3400 calls each year.  Our dedicated volunteers work hard day in and day out to ensure the best care for our residents.If you are a fully certified EMT, you may join several months after your 17th birthday.   

In order to apply you must be able to meet the following requirements:
  • Must be at least 17 1/2 years old
  • Must have taken the EMT course and passed both state exams (written and practical)
  • Must maintain passing grades in school
  • Must not have a current criminal record
  • Must provide one letter of recommendation. This is required and must be provided by a member of your school faculty; i.e. guidance counselor, teacher, etc. or adult (non-family member) who knows you: i.e. clergy, employer, counselor, etc. 
  • Must be able to meet minimum staffing requirements of 16 hours per month.​​
To apply fill out the membership application form, submit it for review via email Your application will be evaluated and you will be contacted for an interview with members of the Junior Corps Committee. It is required that a parent/ legal guardian attends as well to fill out consent forms.
